Waste management
Waste is one of the biggest challenges our society faces today. Each person produces around 400 kilograms of waste every year on average. Although we make efforts to recycle and reduce the amount of waste we generate, there is still much room for improvement. At Mendel University, we recognise that sustainable waste management is not just about recycling – it’s also about minimising the waste we create in the first place and handling non-recyclable waste responsibly.

Energy management
Energy management refers to a set of activities aimed at creating an efficient system for handling energy use. When done well, it leads to financial savings, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and lower energy consumption overall. At Mendel University in Brno, we focus primarily on two key areas of energy management: lighting and heating.

Water management
Responsible water management is one of the voluntary tools promoted by the Czech Ministry of the Environment to protect water resources. It is also one of the key goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda. At Mendel University in Brno, we carry out a variety of activities related to water management. For example, the PoVe project focuses on education in the field of water management and the role of water in the landscape.
